Why do I need an IDL?

The International Driver's License translates your driver’s license so you can show it to officials in foreign countries to help them interpret your native driver’s licence.

The International Driver's License (IDL) provided by The International Driving Association is a translation of your official government issued native driver's license into 16 languages. It has been designed to be simple to use and easy to understand for both the English and Non-English speaker. It can be a useful advantage for motorists who are traveling overseas that are experiencing difficulties with various language barriers by showing it to the officials to help them better interpret your native driver's license.

IDP's are commonly known as International Driving Permit's which are official documents provided by governmental agencies such as your local AA offices in the UK, are authorized to issue IDP's to consumers. The IDL has no official status and does not replace your native Driving Licence.
